Progeny

Ballineen Blue Mountain had a handful of foals born in England before his export to New Zealand. One of those foals, Plas Pennant Martha won the Snowford Breeding Championship, a very highly sought after prize amongst Irish Draught breeders in the UK.

Ballineen Blue Mountain’s oldest progeny in New Zealand are just getting to an age where they are starting out under saddle and we will see more and more of the impressive big greys competing in many different disciplines across the Country.
Ballineen Blue Mountain is extremely prepotent and it’s really easy to spot his babies.

They are all wonderful, leggy types. They have heaps of presence and move very well and are naturally uphill. They have great temperaments and the breeders are loving how easy they are to handle and start under saddle.

Ballineen Blue Mountain is crossing so very well with a wide range of mares from Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods, Welsh, Arab and Clydie cross mares. Even to the heavy type mares, the foals are still lovely, rideable, free moving types. (Some examples of these crosses are pictured in the next few pages).

Ballineen Blue Mountain’s oldest progeny have really flown the flag for him as a sire and their
achievements include…
Rising Star Saddle Hunter Horse of The Year.
Paced and Mannered Saddle Hunter Horse of The Year.
Winner of The Gee Whizz Memorial at Horse of The Year.
Runner-Up Open Saddle Hunter Horse of The Year.
Runner-Up Side Saddle Horse of The Year.
Runner-Up Led Sport Horse Gelding of The Year.

Runner-Up Led Sport Horse Youngstock HOY.
3 rd Novice Dressage Horse of The Year (2 nd in Novice Musical Freestyle)
South Island Premier Saddle Hunter Champion.
South Island Premier Supreme Paced and Mannered Horse.
South Island Premier Supreme Novice Horse.
NZ Agricultural Show Supreme Champion Led All Breeds.
NZ Agricultural Show Supreme Champion Ridden Horse.
… plus many more Supreme Champions up and down the Country.

In the 2020/21 season, Ballineen Blue Mountain’s progeny were Champion Open Saddle Hunter at 11 different A&P Shows in the South Island, Supreme Champion Ridden Horse at 7 of those and Supreme Champion Paced and Mannered at 5 shows.

Like their father, Ballineen Blue Mountain progeny are proving to be very useful jumpers and have the wonderful balanced and sitting canter that gives him and them a fabulous bascule over a fence.

We look forward to seeing some lovely Show Hunters and eventers as the progeny get a bit older.
